We have a birthday celebration this coming weekend for our family baby nephew so serving the Ee Fu Mian aka Birthday Noodles with Broccoli is a must. Also known as the ee fu noodles, it’s a typical noodle served during Chinese weddings and banquets. The kids in my family love this type of noodle as it is soft and easy to chew, and it’s also very tasty without much seasoning.

We cook the ee fu noodles sometimes in chicken or vegetable broth and top it with some fish slices or pork and bak choy. So you can see, it’s a really versatile ingredient noodle that you can cook with different combinations of meat and vegetables.

Ingredients to make Ee Fu Mian

The ingredient list for this recipe is really simple:

  • 200 gm Ee Fu noodles
  • 1 floret broccoli washed and cut into smaller sizes
  • 1/2 onion peeled and cut into smaller chunks
  • 5 cloves garlic peeled and minced
  • 3 tbsp cooking oil
  • Seasoning sauce made of 3 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tbsp sesame oil, 3 tbsp scallop sauce, and 1 cup water, combine these into a bowl and mix well.

How to cook Ee Fu Mian

Here are the simple steps to cook this Ee Fu Mian aka Birthday Noodles with Broccoli:

  • Boil the noodles in water until noodles turn soft.
  • Prepare the seasoning sauce by mixing the soy sauce, sesame oil and scallop sauce and 1 cup of water.
  • Warm cooking oil in pan. Saute garlic and onion in oil until onion caramelises.
  • Add broccoli to the pan and cook till broccoli turns softer.
  • Add noodle and seasoning sauce to the pan and mix well for about 1-2 minutes. Serve and enjoy.

Of course, being Asian, we love eating noodles with chilli and I personally like noodles with green pickled chilli. So feel free to add chopped red or pickled green chillies.

Ingredients
 

  • 200 g Ee Fu noodles
  • 1 floret Broccoli, washed and cut into smaller chunks
  • ½ Onion, peeled and diced
  • 5 cloves Garlic, peeled and minced
  • 3 tbsp Cooking oil

Seasoning sauce

  • 3 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp Sesame oil
  • 3 tbsp Scallop sauce, can be substituted with oyster sauce or mushroom sauce
  • 1 cup Water

Instructions
 

  • Soak 1 floret Broccoli for 5 minutes, then rinse and cut into smaller pieces.
  • Peel and dice 1/2 Onion and 5 cloves Garlic.

  • Boil a pot of water. Once boiled add 200 g Ee Fu noodles to the water and cook until noodles turn soft.

  • Prepare the seasoning sauce by mixing 3 tbsp Soy sauce, 2 tbsp Sesame oil and 3 tbsp Scallop sauce and 1 cup Water.

Notes

You can replace broccoli with other types of vegetables, or the ee fu noodles with rice vermicelli.
