We have a birthday celebration this coming weekend for our family baby nephew so serving the Ee Fu Mian aka Birthday Noodles with Broccoli is a must. Also known as the ee fu noodles, it’s a typical noodle served during Chinese weddings and banquets. The kids in my family loves this type of noodle as it is soft and easy to chew, and it’s also very tasty without much seasoning.
We cook the ee fu noodles sometimes in chicken or vegetable broth and top it with some fish slices or pork and bak choy. So you can see, it’s a really versatile ingredient noodle that you can cook with different combinations of meat and vegetables.

The ingredient list for this recipe is really simple:
- 200 gm Ee Fu noodles
- 1 floret broccoli washed and cut into smaller sizes
- 1/2 onion peeled and cut into smaller chunks
- 5 cloves garlic peeled and minced
- 3 tbsp cooking oil
- Seasoning sauce made of 3 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tbsp sesame oil, 3 tbsp scallop sauce, and 1 cup water, combine these into a bowl and mix well.

The brand that I used for this Ee Fu Mian aka Birthday Noodles is one that I bought from NTUC FairPrice.

Here are the simple steps to cook this Ee Fu Mian aka Birthday Noodles with Broccoli:
- Boil the noodles in water until noodles turn soft.
- Prepare the seasoning sauce by mixing the soy sauce, sesame oil and scallop sauce and 1 cup of water.
- Warm cooking oil in pan. Saute garlic and onion in oil until onion caramelises.
- Add broccoli to the pan and cook till broccoli turns softer.
- Add noodle and seasoning sauce to the pan and mix well for about 1-2 minutes. Serve and enjoy.
Of course, being Asian, we love eating noodles with chilli and I personally like noodles with green pickled chilli. So feel free to add chopped red or pickled green chillies.
