You know that terrific bbq aroma. Charcoal smoke drifting through the night air, chicken wings on a hot grill, and the hawker uncle (or auntie) rotating the skewers of chicken wings, brushing the marinade onto the wings. That’s your neighbourhood hawker centre BBQ stall — the one with the handwritten price list and a queue that tells you just how popular this street food is. The good thing is an air fryer can give you 95% similar taste and texture, with that little smokey char, but slightly healthier without all the grease and unhealthy sauces.

The Marinade Is Everything
The ingredients are very simple. Just fresh chicken wings, homemade seasoning sauce and fresh limes.
I used my all-purpose seasoning sauce as the main marinade for these bbq grilled chicken wings. It’s a mix of sesame oil, soy sauce, white pepper powder, mushroom oyster sauce and Chinese wine. It’s my go-to seasoning sauce for noodles, vegetable dishes, tofu dishes and meat dishes.

How to serve these air fryer bbq chicken wings
Plate these delicious chicken wings on a serving dish, squeeze some fresh lime juice over the chicken wings, dip them in spicy chilli sauce, and eat them while they’re still too hot. It’s the perfect finger food with beer and alcohol, or just nice cold sparkling juice. And because it’s air fried, it’s really quick and easy to prepare and cook. Just take note to use parchment paper in the air fryer when cooking it, as the natural fats and juices will be released. It’s much easier to clean the air fryer this way.

How to store bbq chicken wings
If you cook more and need to store them, it’s best to keep it in an airtight container and chill it in the fridge. Heat it up in a microwave or oven before serving it. Best not to keep it for more than one day.
